STUDENT APPLICATIONS SPECIALIST
SUMMARY:
The Student Applications Specialist is responsible for reviewing and evaluating applications of admission to the universities, colleges and/or schools. This position is governed by state and federal laws and institution policy.
TYPICAL FUNCTIONS:
Receives applications for admission to the universities, colleges, and schools and examines documentation submitted for completeness and accuracy.
Establishes an appropriate file and folder for each applicant and confers with perspective students regarding admission procedures, fees, academic advisors, and degree requirements.
Answers inquiries into admission criteria and offers direction and referral to other university staff members for additional information as desired.
Evaluates applications, academic transcripts, and test scores relating to official requests for admission to the university.
Analyzes previous academic coursework, computes grade point averages, and compares all submitted documents with institution standards to determine eligibility for admission.
Prepares correspondence and notifies applicants, to advise them of the eligibility status or remedial action necessary to qualify for admission.
Communicates with other educational institutions, to obtain copies of transcripts and other pertinent information to facilitate application process.
Updates manual and computerized applicant files as requested admission information is received and verified.
Initiates the mailing of appropriate form letters for generally routine matters involved in the application review process.
Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS:
Knowledge of university admission policies and procedures. Knowledge of school and college admission standards and requirements. Knowledge of office procedures and office machines. Ability to analyze official transcripts and evaluate criteria for accepted admission. Ability to communicate orally and in writing. Ability to operate computerized equipment to facilitate admission review and files.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma; plus three years of experience in admissions, document examination, or a related area.
Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Arkansas Division of Higher Education.
OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
