The Library Support Assistant is responsible for standard or regular support duties within library services. This position is governed by state and federal laws and institution policy.
Greets customers, provides assistance, and directs them to requested service areas within the library and other agencies.
Shelves books, periodicals, and other materials and maintains shelves in correct numerical order, shifting as necessary.
Pulls books from the shelf for circulation.
Maintains statistics of outgoing materials, incoming calls, and patron contacts.
Receives, sorts, and distributes various correspondence and mail to appropriate personnel.
Photocopies various documents and ensures appropriate safeguard of such documents related to confidentiality.
Processes print and non-print materials by verifying, stamping or coding material received, preparing labels, indexing information, producing and checking catalog cards, and assigning classification numbers.
Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS:
Knowledge of computers and software application programs. Knowledge of standard library practices. Knowledge of filing and recordkeeping procedures and basic math. Knowledge of customer service principles. Ability to perform data entry, typing, and word processing. Ability to research records to verify and update materials. Ability to operate general office equipment.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma; plus one year of experience in library services, customer service or a related field.
Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Arkansas Division of Higher Education.
