DAY CARE TEACHER

SUMMARY:

The Day Care Teacher is responsible for directing instructional and recreational activities involving pre-school children. This position is governed by state and federal laws and institution policy.

TYPICAL FUNCTIONS:

Develops lesson plans and programs used to teach pre-school children basic social and education skills.

Instructs children in the development of specific potentials, incorporating various educational topics to promote individual progress for social and intellectual attainment, and provides personal care for pre-school children as needed.

Maintains logs, schedules, and records pertaining to the activities and development of the children.

Supervises recreational and special activities and provides guidance and assistance to subordinates assisting with activities.

Cleans classrooms and recreational areas used during daily activities.

Orders school supplies needed for instructional and recreational use.

Greets parents visiting the day care facility and attends work-shops and seminars for professional development.

Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS:

Knowledge of teaching techniques and development of lesson plans. Knowledge of child behavior. Ability to maintain records and develop lesson plans. Ability to teach, provide personal care, and direct recreational activities of pre-school children. Ability to direct activities of day care personnel.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma; plus two years of specialized training in day care management, pre-school education, or a related field; plus one year of experience in the care of children.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Must possess Infant/Toddler CPR Certification and State Health Certificate.

Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Arkansas Division of Higher Education.

OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
