ACADEMIC LABORATORY ASSISTANT
SUMMARY:
The Academic Laboratory Assistant is responsible for preparing supplies and laboratory equipment for student laboratory exercises and instruction. This position is governed by state and federal laws and institution policy.
TYPICAL FUNCTIONS:
Prepares chemicals needed for various science laboratories.
Conducts inventory of materials and supplies and informs supervisor of stock items needed.
Prepares student laboratory packets and specimens and sets up and removes laboratory equipment.
Cleans and sterilizes glasses and laboratory equipment, as needed.
Complies data for reports of laboratory operations.
Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS:
Knowledge of various laboratory supplies and equipment, as needed, for laboratory instructions. Ability to prepare laboratory procedures for student experiments. Ability to set up laboratory exercises according to instructions. Ability to determine laboratory supply needs.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
The formal education of a high school diploma with courses in science, biology and/or chemistry.
Additional requirements determined by the institution for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Arkansas Division of Higher Education.
OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
