UALR DIRECTOR OF HOUSING

SUMMARY:

The University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR) Director of Housing is responsible for student housing operations at the university. This position is governed by state and federal laws and institution policy.

TYPICAL FUNCTIONS:

Supervises a small-sized housing operations staff by interviewing and hiring applicants, making job assignments, conducting performance evaluations, and recommending personnel actions.

Monitors income and expense balances associated with housing operations and makes projections for future purchases, repairs, and anticipated revenues.

Reviews and approves tenant requests for repairs and improvements to housing facilities.

Makes final tenant selections from screened and referred applications.

Prepares budget information for housing operation and submits to appropriate university officials.

Determines furniture and equipment needs and approves purchases, as needed.

Participates in setting goals and objectives and long-range planning concerning housing operations with university administrators.

Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS:

Knowledge of the maintenance and operational requirements of housing units. Knowledge of budgetary principles and practices. Knowledge of human resources principles and practices. Ability to prepare projections based on income and expense balances. Ability to determine repairs, improvements, and purchases necessary for housing operations. Ability to supervise.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a major in general business, business administration, public administration or a related field; plus two years of experience in student housing or a related field, including one year in a supervisory capacity.

Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Arkansas Division of Higher Education.

OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
