ASU ENGINEERING COMM FACILITIES DIR

SUMMARY:

The Arkansas State University (ASU) Engineering Communication Facilities Director is responsible for the operations of the radio and television engineering section. This position is governed by state and federal laws and institution policy.

TYPICAL FUNCTIONS:

 Develops procedures to accomplish engineering objectives and contributes to the planning of goals and objectives for the section. Maintains equipment used in radio and television academic instruction and reviews operating status of radio and television facilities. Interprets rules to subordinates and assures compliance with FCC rules and regulations. Evaluates new equipment and technological advancement needs and makes recommendations to department administration. Develops and maintains university sports distribution system to ensure proper broadcasts of events. Oversees installation and repair of television and radio equipment and serves as technical advisor for updating, designing, and replacing equipment and facilities. Supervises a technical staff by interviewing and hiring job applicants, evaluating work performance, and resolving personnel problems. 

Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS:

 Knowledge of radio/television electronics and engineering principles and procedures. Knowledge of radio/television electronic microwave and transmitting equipment. Knowledge of FCC rules and regulations relating to radio and television. Knowledge of academic class requirements in radio and television. Ability to supervise a technical staff performing various electronic duties. Ability to provide technical support for commercial type productions in radio and television broadcasting. 

Ability to evaluate radio and television equipment and facilities and make recommendations on updates and/or designs.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a major in electrical engineering or related field; plus three years of experience in radio and television engineering, including two years in a supervisory capacity.

Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Arkansas Division of Higher Education.

OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
