TEACHER ASSISTANT
SUMMARY:
The Teacher Assistant is responsible for performing technical duties in support of educational and training programs and maintaining informational databases, implementing programs or projects, as directed, and providing customer service. This position is governed by state and federal laws and institution policy.
TYPICAL FUNCTIONS:
Provides assistance to instructors by preparing materials, setting up equipment, and maintaining records and files.
Supervises playground/recess activities for students and/or provides direct care assistance to special needs students, such as grooming and providing meals.
Observes and documents behavior and medical related incidents, and assists with bus transportation loading and unloading students.
Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS:
Knowledge of teaching techniques and practices. Knowledge of basic computer applications. Ability to read and follow individualized program plans. Ability to document student/client information and prepare required reports. Ability to supervise student/client activities. Ability to demonstrate learned and daily living skills.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
The formal education equivalent of a high school diplomas; plus one year of experience in a daycare or classroom environment.
Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Arkansas Division of Higher Education.
OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
