STUDENT UNION SECTION MANAGER

SUMMARY:

The Student Union Section Manager is responsible for overseeing the operation of a particular area of a student union facility in an institution of higher education. This position is governed by state and federal laws and institution policy.

TYPICAL FUNCTIONS:

Operates a revenue producing facility, such as a game room or bowling alley, by ordering supplies, pricing items, maintaining inventory records, and preparing business activity reports.

Coordinates facility activities with other areas of the student union to ensure efficient use of building.

Greets customers, explains services and prices, issues equipment, makes change, and handles customer complaints.

Supervises a staff of clerical, part-time, and/or student workers by making work assignments and observing performance.

Performs minor maintenance, such as cleaning pool tables, repairing cue sticks, and clearing obstructions in bowling lanes and equipment.

Coordinates cash control by distributing change to cashiers, clearing cash registers, reconciling balances, and depositing revenue with appropriate student union personnel.

Plans, advertises, and coordinates special events such as tournaments and organizing of leagues.

Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS:

Knowledge of bookkeeping procedures. Knowledge of business operations in a revenue producing facility. Ability to monitor cash flow and control. Ability to oversee the work of clerical, part-time, or student workers. Ability to perform minor maintenance on equipment.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma; plus one year of experience in a revenue producing facility or a related area.

Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Arkansas Division of Higher Education.

OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
