SPECIAL EVENTS MANAGER

SUMMARY:

 The Special Events Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and evaluating 

special event programs. This position is governed by state and federal laws and institution policy.

TYPICAL FUNCTIONS:

 Supervises lower level supervisors and an administrative support staff by interviewing, hiring, training, making work assignments, and evaluating job performance. Plans special event activities, such as guest speakers, concerts, and cultural exhibits, and coordinates publicity for events, scheduling the use of facilities and equipment. Provides technical assistance to performers, students, faculty, and staff, recommends programs to meet changing needs, and maintains records of special events as a referral source. Prepares budget requests, negotiates performer contracts, maintains financial records, and initiates purchase requests. Arranges security coverage for special events and coordinates time, location, and agendas for special events programs. Develops workshops, assists student groups in developing programs, and advises students in the area of student leadership development. Prepares various reports on activities, assists in securing grants to support activities, solves problems associated with special events, and assists various special events committees. 

Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS:

 Knowledge of supervisory practices and procedures. Knowledge of special event programming. Knowledge of facility and equipment requirements for special events. Knowledge of budget development and purchasing procedures related to special events.. Ability to plan and develop special events programs. Ability to purchase and direct set-up of multi-media equipment. Ability to maintain financial records related to special event activities. Ability to direct the work of subordinates. 

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

 The formal education equivalent of a bachelor's degree in public relations, marketing, business administration, or a related field; plus one year of experience in special event programming or a related area, including one year in a leadership capacity. 

Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Arkansas Division of Higher Education.

OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
