FARM WORKER

SUMMARY:

The Farm Worker is responsible for performing farm labor in the planting, care, maintenance, and harvesting of crops and livestock. This position is governed by state and federal laws and institution policy.

TYPICAL FUNCTIONS:

Operates farm equipment in the cultivating, planting, and harvesting of farm crops.

Mixes feed formulas and prepares livestock feed for feeding and watering livestock.

Observes general conditions and checks growth of crops and/or livestock and reports any unusual conditions to supervisor.

Performs minor maintenance to farm equipment and facilities, including building or repairing pens, fences, and minor equipment repairs.

Assists other farm workers in loading and unloading delivery trucks and hauling livestock and/or crops.

Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS:

Knowledge of farm operations. Knowledge of basic farming equipment and crops. Ability to perform manual labor under varying working conditions. Ability to follow oral instructions. Ability to provide feed and care of farm livestock. Ability to operate farm equipment in the cultivating and harvesting of farm crops.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Completion of sufficient education or training to read and write.

Additional requirements determined by the institution for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Arkansas Division of Higher Education.

OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
