COMPUTER SUPPORT COORDINATOR

SUMMARY:

The Computer Support Coordinator is responsible for a wide range of activities related to organizing individuals and projects involving computer support such as the development, implementation, maintenance, and utilization of microcomputer and mainframe systems. This position is governed by state and federal laws and institution policy.

TYPICAL FUNCTIONS:

Provides general supervision of professional and administrative staff by reviewing project assignments and work performed, recommending subordinates for hiring, promotions, terminations, and conducting performance evaluations.

Directs user inquiries regarding computer software and hardware operations to appropriate staff for resolution of problems.

Organizes implementation of new or upgraded software programs or hardware installations with other agency/institution departments.

Researches new technology and methodology and evaluates new products to determine their usefulness to agency users.

Recommends changes or updates in programming, documentation, and training to address system deficiencies and user needs.

Trains other employees in system operation and maintains system instructional manuals and supplies.

Refers major hardware or software problems or defective products to vendors or technicians for service.

Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS:

Knowledge of the limitations and use of mainframe and microcomputer hardware and software. Knowledge of supervisory practices and techniques. Ability to analyze computer system problems or errors and devise corrective measures. Ability to write moderately complex applications to fulfill requirements or select appropriate off-the-shelf software and modify to suit the agency or institution. Ability to read and interpret technical literature and evaluate product acceptability and/or quality. Ability to analyze and resolve computer system problems and devise corrective measures. Ability to configure and install computer hardware and software for users. Ability to manage disk space for micro, mini, or personal computer systems to ensure effective utilization of data, space, and equipment. Ability to supervise subordinate staff.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

The formal education equivalent of a bachelor
