BROADCAST ANNOUNCER
SUMMARY:
The Broadcast Announcer is responsible for preparing broadcast program formats, operating broadcast equipment, announcing programs, and maintaining station broadcast logs. This position is governed by state and federal laws and institution policy.
TYPICAL FUNCTIONS:
Prepares broadcast program format by conducting interviews on tape, editing comments, reviewing daily news from wire services, listening to musical items received by the station, writing or taping feature programs and spot announcements, and dubbing information to production tape.
Operates control board for required video and sound sources and levels, corrects sources for programming or spot announcements during station breaks, tests sources before use, and operates broadcast equipment during broadcasts.
Conducts live broadcasts by conducting interviews during program, reading news and weather reports, covering campus and community special events from studio, or on location, and providing commentary.
Maintains daily logs required by the Federal Communications Commission by noting times of broadcast operations and program announcements, and monitoring checks and maintenance operations.
Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS:
Knowledge of Federal Communication Commission rules and regulations related to broadcasting. Knowledge of broadcast station operations and procedures. Knowledge of broadcast control and tape editing techniques. Ability to operate broadcast production and transmission equipment. Ability to conduct interviews on air and for taping. Ability to maintain records and logs related to broadcasting.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma; plus one year of specialized training in broadcasting, communications or a related field; plus one year of experience in broadcasting or a related area.
Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Arkansas Division of Higher Education.
