ATU DIRECTOR OF HOUSING

SUMMARY:

The Arkansas Tech University (ATU) Director of Housing is responsible for directing the university’s student housing and associated programs. This position is governed by state and federal laws and institution policy.

TYPICAL FUNCTIONS:

Directs the overall administration of the student housing and student life programs in resident halls, apartments and other facilities.

Manages and provides direction to lower level supervisors in the operations of a resident housing program.

Develops policies and procedures for the administration of student housing.

Develops student housing contracts and establishes student behavior policies.

Develops and administers departmental operational budget and monitors all departmental expenditures.

Makes arrangements of housing required for summer school programs, special events, and conferences; administers the Student Life Program in residence halls.

Provides resources for educational and enrichment programs and counsels with students individually or in groups.

Coordinates academic advising in residence halls to provide students with the opportunity for assistance in class scheduling, tutoring, and referrals to academic staff.

Coordinates university housing with other student services on and off campus.

Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS:

Knowledge of university policies and state laws applicable to the university housing program. Knowledge of maintenance and custodial requirements and techniques of large-scale housing. Knowledge of budgetary principles and practices. Knowledge of state purchasing procedures. Knowledge of campus and community resources for student life program. Ability to formulate, interpret, and apply policies and procedures for program operations. Ability to provide guidance, assistance, and counseling to students. Ability to prepare budgetary and housing rate recommendations based on analysis of past expenses and the projection of future needs.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a major in business administration or related field; plus two years of experience in student housing or a related area, including two years in a supervisory capacity.

Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Arkansas Division of Higher Education.

OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
