ASU DIRECTOR OF HOUSING
SUMMARY:
The Arkansas State University (ASU) Director of Housing is responsible for the university housing program. This position is governed by state and federal laws and institution policy.
TYPICAL FUNCTIONS:
Supervises a staff of lower level managers and workers by interviewing and hiring job applicants, planning work schedules, providing training, evaluating work performance and handling disciplinary matters. Coordinates academic advising in residence halls to provide assistance to students in academic areas. Develops and directs implementation of policies and procedures in the area of housing operations. Performs cost analysis and develops final budget recommendations. Recommends new housing rate structures to university administration. Reviews and directs investigation and resolution of complaints regarding operations. Attends various group meetings and participates on various committees associated with the university community.
Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS:
Knowledge of state and federal laws governing the operation of student residence halls. Knowledge of the maintenance and operational requirements of residence halls and individual family housing units. Knowledge of administrative practices and techniques. Ability to prepare budgets and housing rate structures based on analysis of past expenditures and projections for future operations. Ability to monitor the housing environment for developing problems. Ability to supervise a staff of lower level managers and workers.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
The formal education equivalent of a bachelor's degree with a major in general business, public administration, or related field; plus three years of experience in student housing, student programs, or related area, including two years in a supervisory capacity.
Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Arkansas Division of Higher Education.
