ASU CONSTRUCTION COORDINATOR

SUMMARY:

The Arkansas State University (ASU) Construction Coordinator is responsible for construction activities at an institution of higher education. This position is governed by state and federal laws and institution policy.

TYPICAL FUNCTIONS:

 Develops short and long range plans relevant to construction priorities and needs of the university. Prepares construction budgets and recommends methods of financing of projects for university administration approval. Meets with architects, engineers, and contractors to be used in projects and informs them of needs and requirements to be met. Observes and monitors construction work and makes adjustments and corrections on plans, as necessary. Plans, estimates, and executes smaller construction projects with in-house personnel or by contract. Prepares periodic facility construction and other progress reports, as required. Advises university administration on technical and financial aspects of construction projects and provides expertise to architects, engineers, contractors, and work crews on needs and priorities. 

Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS:

 Knowledge of current building and safety codes. Knowledge of different methods of construction financing. Knowledge of construction budget development. Ability to develop construction plans, procedures, and budgets. Ability to execute and coordinate small construction projects. Ability to monitor and oversee major construction projects and prepare project progress reports. 

Ability to provide technical assistance and guidance to professional staffs and work crews regarding construction projects.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

 The formal education equivalent of a bachelor's degree with a major in industrial engineering, architecture, or related field; plus three years of experience in construction or related area. 

Additional requirements determined by the institution for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Arkansas Division of Higher Education.

OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
