ASST DIR STUDENT UNION

SUMMARY:

The Assistant Director of Student Union is responsible for staffing needs of a student union facility and advising and assisting student groups who use the facility at an institution of higher education. This position is governed by state and federal laws and institution policy.

TYPICAL FUNCTIONS:

Supervises a staff of maintenance, custodial, and student employees by interviewing and selecting job applicants, assigning job duties, and evaluating work performance.

Reviews and approves requests for use of student union and oversees the set-up of the facility.

Interprets and enforces policies and procedures associated with the student union.

Compiles data related to revenue projections, cost control, and inventory records.

Assists in developing budget requests by reviewing and analyzing financial and statistical information.

Informs and clarifies requirements, procedures, and/or guidelines for program planning and operation to student organizations.

Coordinates ticket sale operations, for athletic and other campus functions, including policy implementation, ticket distribution, and cash reconciliation.

Gathers information on available campus and community services and resources to be used in future planning.

 Performs other duties as assigned. 

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS:

Knowledge of facility and business management. Knowledge of personnel management, budgeting techniques, and program planning. Knowledge of computer applications related to administrative functions. Ability to supervise a staff of facility workers. Ability to review and analyze financial and statistical data.

Ability to coordinate a comprehensive student union program. Ability to utilize computer applications. Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written formats.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in general business, public administration, management or a related field; plus two years of experience in student programs or a related area, including one year in a supervisory capacity.

Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Arkansas Division of Higher Education.

OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
