ADMISSIONS SPECIALIST

SUMMARY:

The Admissions Specialist is responsible for review and evaluation of applications of admission to the university colleges and/or schools. This position is governed by state and federal laws and institution policy.

TYPICAL FUNCTIONS:

Receives, reviews, and evaluates applications for admission, academic transcripts, test scores, and other credentials, such as essays, class ranking, student leadership, honors, awards, talents and other achievements relating to the request for admission to an educational institution from new students, former students, transfer students, and international students.

Computes and analyzes previous academic coursework, grade point averages at other accredited schools, accreditation status of previous schools attended, and test scores.

Compares and analyzes all submitted documents considering institution standards to determine admission eligibility.

Processes applications for admission to off-campus centers and creates a computerized and manual file for each applicant.

Corresponds and communicates directly with applicants to advise them of their eligibility status, remedial action necessary to qualify for admission, need for additional information, or to provide requested information.

Initiates individual correspondence and the mailing of appropriate form letters.

Confers with students concerning admission procedures, housing facilities, fees, academic advisors, and degree requirements, and directs prospective students to other university staff members for additional information.

Communicates with other educational and external institutions to obtain transcripts and other pertinent information.

Updates manual and computerized applicant files as requested admission information is received and verified.

Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS:

Knowledge of current evaluation techniques for international grading and point averages. Knowledge of office procedures and office machines. Knowledge of university admission policies and procedures Knowledge of university and college admission standards and official academic achievement certifications. Ability to analyze official transcripts and evaluate criteria for admission. Ability to lead the work activities of lower level analysts in application reviews. Ability to determine if information obtained is adequate to support recommendations. Ability to communicate admission requirements or deficiencies in application process. Ability to operate computerized equipment to facilitate admission review and files.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma, plus one year of experience in college admissions, documentation review, or a related area.

Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Arkansas Division of Higher Education.

OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
