LITTLE ROCK, AR (December 8, 2016) – The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff has been selected to participate in Project Pipeline Repair: Restoring Minority Male Participation and Persistence in Educator Preparation Programs.

The SHEEO initiative is made possible by a three-year grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. The grant is designed to engage state policy leaders, educator preparation programs at HBCUs, and school partners to address the underrepresentation of minority males in P-12 education.

Each participating HBCU will select 10-12 high school juniors to participate in the program, which entails extensive academic enrichment and other activities including mentoring and advising throughout the project including their first year in an educator preparation program.

Project PR will achieve outcomes through emphasis on skill development in the essential areas of written and oral communication, critical thinking for problem solving, teamwork, and quantitative literacy, which are among the Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) essential six learning outcomes as described in their publication "College Learning for the New Global Century." In addition to closing academic achievement gaps, the project will foster the building of a strong foundation for participants to begin developing the requisite knowledge, skills, and dispositions of highly competent and effective educators.
